If you've found what seems like a good acronym domain but haven't a clue as to what it could stand for - and, therefore, don't know who you would market and sell it to - use acronym databases to see if that domain is potentially worth your money. But a few words of warning: Is it well-known and/or trademarked? Then don't even think about buying it unless you want a lawsuit.
Are you sure it's not trademarked? Good. Then let's get going here. If it's just a jumble of letters that sound great together, you'll want to check Acronym Finder or Acronym Geek for what they could possibly represent. I found an intriguing one before: CERU. It was pronounceable and short, maybe a good investment. The suggestions from the acronym sites were few, such as "Cultural Evaluation and Research Unit" and "Conservation Ecology Research Unit." Ultimately, I decided not to pick up the name because it had absolutely no presence online, I wasn't sure about its potential, I didn't feel I could take on another name that required a lot of specialized marketing, and I think it was at auction with other bidders. I still like it, though, and probably would snatch it up if I ever saw it again, but only at a cheap price.
Pay special attention to Acronym Geek. I hadn't found this site until I was searching for more acronym databases, and it gave me 21 results for CERU rather than the 6 of Acronym Finder. It might have changed my mind about the domain. I think AG will be my default from now on.
