Done with GoDaddy, Sort Of

gdbbx1705 and BIGWIN30

Railroad tracks
Don't be fooled by that name; BIGWIN is definitely not a win. It seems GoDaddy really doesn't care about its existing customers anymore (if they ever did) unless you buy only new domains. I haven't had any problems that I needed help with, so I can't comment on customer support, but I'm not impressed with them overall anymore seeing as how they keep hiking prices and giving little to no incentive to stay. You can't be looking for just the next customer, shoving the old ones out of the way. That is bad business. It's extremely difficult for current low-volume customers to get any sort of discount. I've been through hundreds of coupons lately, and thousands more over the past year, which was a nearly complete waste of time seeing as how most work only for new registrations. And those that purport to work when you input them into the code box on the checkout page, those that aren't expired and are supposed to be for renewals instead take nothing off. Even codes that they send in email are all about new domains and volume sales.

So it looks like that's the end of the line. My experience necessitates that my next new domain will be with another registrar. I will continue to browse and utilize the GoDaddy auctions, but no brand-new purchases will be made. I just now have to spend my very limited free time to find out which registrar I want to eventually transfer my domains to. I never did this before because I had no time, money, or inclination. I picked GoDaddy long ago because of prices, before the annoying commercials were a regular thing and I found out I didn't like the CEO. I stuck with them solely for the same reason. Now that reason is gone. As such, I will be taking down GoDaddy ads. If they appear in an AdSense ad, please understand that I no longer endorse them.

Found a few coupons at FatWallet this time. Previously I had relied on RetailMeNot, but they haven't put up renewal codes in a while. I also use ComCoupons, but it seems to be the same story there.

gdbbx1705 works for renewals. It brings the price of .coms down to $9.99 each instead of $12.99 or $14.99. I'll take that. Maybe use the $8 I saved on music.

BIGWIN30 took $7 off the two .com renewals. It went from $28.43 down to $21.35. Still not good enough, though.

BB2086D60 said it was 30% off renewals. That's a lie. It took off 9 cents. SAS30OFF1 was supposed to do the same. It didn't.

I didn't try every code I came across. That would be insane...but I came close.  It's possible a description could fail to mention that a code allows renewals, but it's not worth the effort unless you're renewing dozens or hundreds of domains. I also didn't try any coupons for percentages off total since those start at $30 or $40 and I had only two domains to renew last week. Even sitewide coupons that are supposed to have no restrictions do not work.

As always, please have a look at the domains I have for sale, such as ZapTicket.com, Squok.com, and Yap2.com. These are domains only, not websites.

On an unrelated note, it is so time for a change here. I've been wanting to find a more appropriate template for months. I think I have one I like. Hopefully I can force myself to ignore my other sites one weekend and get this done. It'll be a refreshing change of pace.
